Extremely rare Limited Edition Print, commissioned in 1989 commemorating Arsenal’s iconic 1988/89 League Championship campaign. The print has been hand signed by 19 of the squad that helped bring home Arsenal’s first league title since 1971. The print which was commissioned in 1989 after the famous win at Anfield with just 100 being signed hence us classifying this item as ‘Extremely Rare’. The print alone in 1989 was retailing for around £400.00. The 1988/89 Season will forever be one of the most memorable in Arsenal history. With the team hitting top form throughout the season, Paul Merson in scintillating form, Tony Adams captain fantastic and Alan Smith the league’s top goal scorer, not to mention the tactical masterclass of manager George Graham. Arsenal went into the last game of the season just 3 points behind Liverpool unbelievably needing a 2 goal clear result at Liverpool’s home Anfield to seal the title. In them days Liverpool were a European Powerhouse and this kind of result was seen as an absolute impossible task. Arsenal went into half time 1-0 thanks to Alan Smith’s 22nd League Goal of the season, needing just one goal and a clean sheet in the least 45mins to become Champions of England. A tense second half and time on the clock rapidly ticking away, Michael Thomas found himself clean through with literally seconds remaining and in a total moment of madness he flicked the ball over Bruce Grobbelaar sending all Arsenal fans, players and staff into total pandemonium. One of the most dramatic endings to any sporting season globally. The iconic commentary and scenes of Michael Thomas celebrating live on forever. “Thomas, charging through the midfield, Thomas, It’s up for grabs now, Thomas... right at the end”. The print has been wonderfully framed and modified for a much more modern presentation. The George Graham autograph which was signed in a separate part of the print to the players has been perfectly displayed alongside some of the 1980s and retro style Arsenal badges. Inside the mount the full print is fully intact. The overall size of the item is approx 28x38 inches.
